Briefly, the French view with regard to foreign competitors in the Colony appeare to be: "You are not here by our invitation; if you do not like our treatment, the remedy lies in your own hande",

Nevertheless, some months ago I received a letter from the Governor of Cochin-China requesting certain informa- tion which would enable him to deal with any future claims for preferential treatment received from Asiatic British Subjects. It is possible therefore, but not probable, that the whole matter may be brought up for reconsideration at some future date.
